Organise likemind events on the fringes of other events - so if a likemind coffee drinker goes to a global conference, they invite all likemind coffee drinkers to suggest a venue in that city, and whoever is around to join them for coffee - the wandering, ad hoc likemind. NL
Likemind-sponsored/branded discussion lunches... the hub, Bristol is hosting one round the topic of collaborative web content and networking for not-for-profits; we had one recently on PR for small business; likemin could do similar stuff, to draw in young entrepreneurial types. I also like the idea of moving from the coffee to collaborative co-working that (I think) the hosts from Detroit and Philadelphia mentioned; a day to come up with something neat - that could work well for us. NL
The Bristol group - today, Nigel Legg (me), Andrea Krause, Mike Zeidler, Kirsty Chase, Max Khanna - were more interested in the connections possible, between people and ideas, than anything else:
Likemind is more a process than an organization - a way of connecting people - how does likemind connect people globally? There should be a focus on purpose - Mike Zeidler.
What does likemind mean to you? A willingness to think about things - being open minded - not so much an interest but a way of thinking - MK;
Together we can achieve something different, something more than the sum of the parts - KC;
Mike might go to a birdwatch meeting out of curiosity;
likemind should be looking for people who attract people;
the experience of likemind will depend on the host - the character of the brand depends on the host, so each ciy will have a different slant or angle;
diversity of ideas and people makes a better thing than just a within-hub network - we must go out and bring more people in;
what is the unique purpose of likemind? - fun and interesting; come to likemind to be pulled out of your normality; we would rather choose topics more relevant to Bristol, local issues - that is the common denominator - and relate to the global discussion; people feel connected and emotional about the city, and want to talk about issues that affect the city; have to be more open than the Civic society - we @ the hub are about "dynamic change";
for example, the Industrial Museum have a mural of historic Bristolians and are doing a new one of current Bristolians - they are discussing it at the moment - this could be a good topic for Bristol, but it could also be interesting for other cities to look at the people who are shaping the city;
"it's all about me me ME" - MZ.
Some people need more time for thinking about the topic to make sure you can attend the meeting - AK.
Unless the people who take part get something out of it, it will fade away - but at the same time every one will want something different, so what direction will it go in? The example of the church coffee that faded away because there was no real purpose - MK.
In terms of sustainability, there must be outcomes - for example, revisiting, and reviewing the topics discussed, and taking action on them - and then feeding that back to the global network - you could use the global network as an "ideas factory" for actions both locally and globally - KC.
Feedback from build a city to Transition Bristol? - ideas feed action. More co-operation between likemindUK - UK-wide topics - more horizontal contact.
As you can see, we're quite an activist group - but we also love ideas.

Conversations in MPLS often come back around to the local little guy. And we quickly got there with the latest Likemind question. One intriguing idea uses Likemind as a link between venture capital firms and small business. Likemind could act as a consultant to small businesses (or people who want to be small businesses!) to help them understand what they need to improve to become attractive to VCs. Then, if we wanted to turn a profit, we could develop relationships with VCs and pass along those ideas that are really great, or those that we have helped a company mold and those in which we feel confident.
A second issue that comes up frequently is a dissatisfaction with the current way of managing information online—“sucking from the hose”—so could Likemind set out to find a solution? We’ve found that Likeminders tend to be heavy users of many information resources (everything from Twitter to nings to Jaiku and RSS) so we understand their limitations and independent benefits…put that collective intelligence to use to find a better app.
These are all pretty big ideas for Likemind...but a greater purpose will help us move the conversation...we are a pretty small group, so we have come to know what each others' hot issues are, so sometimes conversations are a little repetitive. A new topic every month helps our crowd apply each individual's expertise in a new way of thinking.

Have lunch events as well as breakfast meetings, but have it like on a different Friday of the month than the coffee mornings.
Invite people to discuss their projects and get constructive feedback (but not do a big presentation like the monthly Tech Meetup).
Crowdsource different Likemind regulars to host a happy hour event or recommend a cool event for Likeminders to attend.
I like the idea of a happy hour - since morning meetings don't well work for my schedule.
Take a field trip to see something amazing in the marketing, innovation, tech, &/or media space (JGG)
Take advantage of how global we are -- have a virtual gathering in Second Life, a video chat room, or even a text chat room (JGG)
Create an online environment that can serve as an "idea cooker" for all of us (JGG)

Suggestions for how Likemind could evolve in 2008:
• A more mingle-friendly meeting place
• A short introduction by everyone, in order to find out about shared interests etc
• Investigate the possibility of talking around a specific theme each time
• ...or invite a speaker to present a certain topic (2-3 times per year)
• But it’s important to keep the relaxed, ‘no pressure to perform’ atmosphere that everyone seems to really appreciate about Likemind
